About Classroom Connections
Classroom Connections is our way of ensuring that KGSA supporters are able to form meaningful relationships with the school and the Kibera community. Each year KGSA takes in 30 bright new girls who are excited for an education. We are looking for 30 committed supporters to share in that excitement and sponsor the incoming class. Pledge to raise or donate $750 per year to sponsor one student and in return you'll receive monthly emails with photographs and stories with all of the latest happenings at the school.
We can guarantee you that 100% of each dollar you raise or donate will go directly to the Kibera Girls' Soccer Academy in Kenya and their operating costs which include things such as teacher salaries, school supplies, technology, clubs, meals, field trips and more!

Understanding the Impact of Your Gift to a Girl at Kibera Girls' Soccer Academy
Education: The impact of an education is endless. Education translates into higher earnings, which women then invest in their families and their communities. An educated mother is more than twice as likely to send her children to school. Education is the path out of poverty.
Youth Development: KGSA started as a girls' soccer team and continues to champion the importance of sports and extra-curricular activities. The school has an active club program including journalism, drama, cooking, computer and business clubs as well as a soccer team. These clubs provide a creative outlet for youth and engender critical-thinking and leadership skills. Extra-curricular activities have proven to be impactful in increasing academic performance, emotional well-being, and reducing incidences of drug use, violence or criminal behavior, and teen pregnancy.
Nutrition: Each girl at KGSA is provided with one healthy meal per day. The World Food Programme reports that a daily school meal provides a strong incentive to send children to school and allows children to focus on their studies rather than their stomachs, as well as helps to increase attendance, decrease drop-out rates, and improve cognitive abilities. For some children, a meal at school might be their own source of daily nutrition, without which hunger and nutrient deficiencies can cause irreversible damage to adolescents' growing bodies.
Health: In 2016, KGSA partnered with a local health clinic to provide the students with biannual wellness exams and other primary healthcare services including immunizations and STI/HIV screenings. KGSA has also partnered with organizations such as Femme International to provide the students with feminine hygiene products which have been proven to reduce absenteeism and increase academic performance in adolescent girls.
Safety: School is a safe and productive place for girls to develop in their teenage years. Secondary education provides the girls with an alternative to the perils of idleness or hopelessness that can lead to drugs use, criminal behavior, unsafe sex, which in turn can result in teen pregnancy, AIDS, or early marriage. The World Bank reports that Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest adolescent fertility rate in the world, but research has shown that adolescent girls in school are less likely to have an unintended pregnancy.
